Summary
Pickup mail on the fly at Flat Top, Hopkins Spring, Lacey Springs and Furnace unless you have a mail drop BOL. Stop at all other stations for mail. Stop for water at all water tanks. Turn engine, caboose and RPO at Broadway. Make a backing move from Swift Run to Stanley
Detailed Instructions
This train goes to all locations on the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah routes.
All mail stops are a minimum five minutes.
Only stop at Flat Top, Hopkins Spring, Lacey Springs, and Furnace if you have a MAIL PICKUP or MAIL DROP BOL.
Step-by-step
- In Flat Top, pickup mail on the fly (do not stop).
- In Hood, take water, pickup mail and check with operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- Take water at the Hopkins Spring water tower.
- In Hopkins Spring and Lacey Springs, pickup mail on the fly.
- In Broadway, leave the RPO at the station, take water, turn engine and move caboose to other end of RPO car. At scheduled time proceed back to Swift Run.
- Take water at the Hopkins Spring water tower.
- In Swift Run, check with the operator for orders, request helix access and wait for clear semaphore.
- In Furnace, pickup up mail on the fly and take water.
- In Stanley pickup mail.
- In Furnace, take water and pickup mail on the fly.
- In Swift Run, check with the operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- In Hood, pickup mail and take water.
The Blue Ridge

THIS IS A MIXED TRAIN. Stop at all passenger stations. Take water in Hood and Furnace. Work team tracks in Furnace and Stanley. Turn engine in Stanley and terminate at passenger station.

Detailed Instructions
All passenger station stops are a minimum five minutes.
Step-by-step
- In Hood, take water and check with operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- In Furnace, if not switching cars, stop at the passenger station. If switching cars, leave passenger car at station during moves. Take water.
- In Stanley, stop at passenger station. Then if necessary switch freight cars for the team track only. Turn engine and move caboose to end of train for return trip. Leave Stanley as per time posted on timetable. (Note: DO NOT switch the N&W interchange.)
- In Furnace, take water and stop at passenger station.
- In Swift Run, check with operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- In Hood, stop at passenger station and take water.

Step-by-step (Train out)
- In Hood, take the siding and meet #11, take water and check with operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- Pull onto mountain route to clear crossover then back onto main.
- In Brooke, stop at signal and push the East Access Request pushbutton. Wait for a green signal then proceed to Thorny Point.
- After pulling into Thorny Point, assist Thorny Point switcher as needed. (Note: The Thorny Point switcher is the local yardmaster and in control of all moves within Thorny Point, and between Brooke and Thorny Point.)

This train runs as an EXTRA
- Take water in Thorny Point.
- Pickup train assembled by Thorny Point Switcher.
- Once released by the Thorny Point Yardmaster, proceed to White Hall as an extra keeping clear of all superior trains.
- In Brooke, stop at signal and push the West Access Request pushbutton. Wait for a green signal then proceed to White Hall.
- In Hood, take water and check with operator for any orders.

- In Hood, take water and check with the operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for a clear semaphore.
- Take water at the Hopkins Spring water tower.
- In Lacey Springs at the ELC sawmill, pick up all cars going to the ELC logging interchange and drop off all cars going to the ELC sawmill.
- In Broadway at the ELC logging interchange (back left track), pick up and drop off cars for the ELC logging interchange. Take water, turn engine and run caboose around the train.
(Note: DO NOT switch the Southern interchange. Review timetable and stay clear of any arriving and departing trains in Broadway. Main must be clear for any arriving passenger trains.)

- In Lacey Springs at the ELC sawmill, drop off cars from logging interchange destined for the ELC sawmill.
- Take water at the Hopkins Spring water tower.
- In Swift Run, check with operator for any orders. Request helix access and wait for clear semaphore.

- In Hood, take water upon arrival and check with the operator for any orders. While keeping the main lines clear of through traffic, work Hood Brother's packing. Work only Hood Brother’s Packing spotting cars at the indicated positions.
(Note: DO NOT work the team track in Hood.)
(Note: You may only foul one route through Hood at any time except during run-a-rounds. When doing run-a-rounds you must be aware of all superior train movements through Hood and stay clear of them.)

- When ready to return to White Hall check with the Hood operator for any orders then proceed to White Hall as an extra keeping clear of all superior trains.
